Note that even running a survey with "negative" question would bias the results in that direction (eg. difference between "how do you rate this?" and "what is bad about this?")

The poster you asked for proof was countering anecdotal claim with their own — why did you not join them in asking for the proof first?
Anyway, this is all rhetorical — as I said, just pointing out that you are not being fair to the poster you replied to, because if you were, you would have asked exactly what you asked here: "is there any source for any of these claims either way?"
