Wouldn’t the easy way to do that be to write your notes in a email client and store them as drafts on an IMAP server?
That gives you fewer restrictions (as the article mentions “avoid using tables and drawings (there may be other elements that are not compatible with this method)”) and allows you to not only read, but also edit and write notes on your Linux computer.
The price you pay is an UI that has “To” and “Cc” entry fields and a “Send” button.
If you use an open source email client and are a developer, it shouldn’t be hard to get rid of those, too.
