Ask HN: Crowd design and make a GPS tracker for third world motorbikes in a week?

So I'm currently biking through Vietnam. An interesting questing is just how far and often these bikes go up and down Vietnam. So the question is, could we design and build a mobile-internet enabled GPS tracker that could log and submit distances traveled to a web service inside a week?

How I envision it working: design the hardware and get it manufactured, I'll pick it up in Hanoi (after covering all costs) and install it on our bikes, where we will then on sell them.

Future backpackers can then get an interesting history on their bike, and we score +1 for the open source movement.

Are there any people with the requisite skills who would be willing to help out?

Email in sig, or else in this thread!
