I will definitely try your approach of not talking about semantics but about the free UX you get when using the proper elements. I have the same experience when talking to my devs about semantic html.
Just last week I visited Eise Eisinga’s planetarium in Franeker, The Netherlands (https://www.planetarium-friesland.nl/en/). Finished in 1781, he used only wood and nails to fit an intricate and quite accurate orrery in the ceiling of his fairly modest house. This Instructable is very enticing!
There have been tons of fake apps that claim to do everything from microwaving food to measuring blood pressure. Not everyone knows everything about how things work in principle. I could imagine that GP doesn't know whether this is anywhere near realistic and just assumes it's a joke, maybe?
