I expected this comment coming into the thread. I would just like to point out that there is a huge range of options between those two extremes!

If is entirely possible to teach up a child to be curious AND well rounded in the basics (see also concepts of Trivarium and Quadrivium, sorry can't link the references atm).

> there is a huge range of options between those two extremes!

Which two extremes would those be?

Presumably the extremes of left and right?

(Which are, of course, far more similar than people that identify with either extreme would ever admit).

Age reckoning in South Korea (and other east Asian countries) is quite different than what you might expect. Age 1 in this context could be up to 3; if year 1 is your birth date and you age up at the new year, you could be "2 years old" while being alive for only 3 days. It could also work the other way around if they follow one of the other methods. Pretty interesting and not yet fully standardized!

Thanks, I'm gonna start using East Asian age reckoning to indicate how many professional years of experience I have.

I may be imagining it but it's very reminiscent of "Scott Alexander" / Slate Star Codex / whatever he rebranded to

I think this is definitely drawing inspiration from his writing (especially the Bay Area House Party posts; latest in the series, with the previous at the top: https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/sources-say-bay-area-house-...). Just curious, but why would that make you hesitate?

I suppose the argument there is that it's not necessarily a megaphone for the fella with 24 followers. The concern comes from when someone amasses a following through "acceptable" means and then pivots. Not sure how to balance that.

new algos will gladly give people with 24 followers millions of views if the content pushes the right metrics

My interpretation based on experience is that the underqualified individuals will often be more prone to volunteering, participation in clubs and committees, and politicking. The overqualified individuals also do this, but will likely be required to do "the real job" more often, leaving a less qualified individual more free to do those things.

Community involvement is a significant factor on both enlisted and officer performance reports. Gotta fill that section in no matter what, and if your section is poor it drags your overall score down.

However, promotion testing is purely knowledge and skill based. A good test taker can overcome the weight of lower performance report scores.

Just my opinion, though.

Manually syncing several of the MEP012 generators was always far more stressful to me than any physical dangers!

I bet. I never messed with the trailer or skid mounted generators. It sounds like you were also USAF. At least modern day noise cancelling headphones are much better. Guessing you probably have tinnitus from working on them. At least I think that is partially where mine came from.

> Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Heres Tom with the Weather.

-Bill Hicks Don't take this as downplaying at all, because it's a fantastic and uplifting revelation, so long as one doesn't presume they're the first to consider it (it is even better this way imo)

I saw your upload (or the one you're referencing), thanks for the rapid ruin if you did that

not aware of what you are referencing, only talking about the gg tld

the internet's down! it is always DNS let us go touch grass
