Mercor

This is exactly my take. Are you me? :-)

Well said!

Little known secret is they paid $2.7B, not $2B. And Zuck and the FB head of M&A were talking shit about John Carmack’s crazy wife, who was doing his negotiation for him. On WhatsApp no less.

That sounds about right. Thanks for the insight.

Puzzling indeed. Just watch an interview with him. Nothing insightful, just trendy buzzword wordvomit.

> Nothing insightful, just trendy buzzword wordvomit.

That is my impression of his Twitter feed from what I remember.

Microsoft back in the day and today still doesn’t pay top dollar. So you can’t get top talent with 65th percentile pay.

Microsoft used to have a location advantage, the Seattle area was a lot cheaper than the bay area.

They've long since lost that advantage.

California has a weather advantage over rainy Seattle though.

How does one train a TTS model with an LLM backbone? Practically, how does this work?

you use a neural audio codec to encode audio into codebooks

then you could treat the codebook entries as tokens and treat audio generation as a next token prediction task

you then take the codebook entries generated and run it through the codec’s decoder and yield audio

it works surprisingly well

speech text models (tts model with an llm as backbone) is the current meta

Or they are using a speedy add-on decoder.

Even classic GPT-4 from March 2023 was quantized to 4.5 bits.

They’re afraid Cursor is going to drift away from VS Code.

the quality gap between agentic AI in Cursor and VSC is like night and day. If VSC would add LM Studio/llama.cpp support, it could win some programmers.

Is there a good way to replicate cursor tab in VS code? I don’t mean the interaction model, but how accurate it is. What model does Cursor use? It’s quite good AND fast.

I haven’t had the time to try it, but apparently a few weeks ago Copilot had a major update. Maybe someone else I can use can come in how it performs vs Cursor?

yes, I got excited after that major update and tried VSC, but it was not ironed out and clearly they got their system prompts wrong.

It's much better now, but it only works well with Sonnet 3.7.

The least speculative: PPUs will be converted from capped profit to unlimited profit equity shares at the benefit of PPU holders and at the expense of OpenAI the nonprofit. This is why they are doing it.
