I just have a feeling that the articles that were published comparing efficacy of e.g. Ritalin vs. caffeine were focusing on whether caffeine could be a wholesale substitute for Ritalin, which I don't think is the case either (people with serious symptoms need serious medication). Instead I am curious about looking at the broader spectrum of ADHD cases, and evaluating whether caffeine could help 'lower-level' sufferers who may not need the full service medication.
